Information needed on Tokko's use of torture
[edit]From page 221 of the book "The Policing of Politics in the Twentieth Century: Historical Perspectives edited by Mark Mazower" shows two viewpoints of the Tokko's use of torture. One view says the Tokko carried out organised torture, while another viewpoint says that only individuals used torture, and that torture was not the official policy of Tokko leaders.(Greg723 (talk) 02:26, 9 September 2014 (UTC)).
Discussion of what needs clarification in this statement
[edit]"Prisoners were forced to write accounts of how they had become involved with "dangerous ideologies", rewriting these essays until their interrogators were happy with the work. These works then were used to prove their criminal involvement."
My understanding of the situation is that it is similar to the essays that foreigners are sometimes currently forced to write if they do something that the Police deem sufficient to warrent a caution. These essays are written in only Japanese and not translated for the person expected to copy them out, since the person has not been arrested representation need not be in attendance and in most reported experiences I have learned of the person does not resist writing out these "statements" as it avoids greater possible sanctions including the potential to violate their VISA requirements and be returned to their home country. The statements are generally known to be admission of guilt and grovelling apology statements though I've not heard of any cases where they have later been used as primary evidence in convictions - they may be inadmissible anyway due to the person not understanding sufficient Japanese to understand what they are doing. Certainly some steps in the direction of fairer trials. — Preceding unsigned comment added by 42.125.41.18 (talk) 17:36, 17 August 2020 (UTC)
Thought section
[edit]I have seen this translated as ‘Thought control bureau’. One writer has said that, in this translation, the department is his candidate for having the most obnoxious government department title ever: The Thought Control Bureau of the Imperial Secret Police. Some info on this could improve the article. 2A00:23C7:E284:CF00:48AC:9A05:3E4A:8C6F (talk) 17:15, 30 June 2021 (UTC)
change the title
[edit]Special Higher Police MUST BE NOT the title of the page !! What about the researches with the TOKKO word ??? no occurence ! Thanks to modify the title ASAP. Hanafunda (talk) 06:42, 19 March 2023 (UTC)
- All English-language scholarship uses "Special Higher Police." Some other languages on Wikipedia only use a Japanese transliteration because they were copying the English Wikipedia page, which used to have the transliteration before. It does not make sense to use a Japanese-language transliteration that no English scholarly sources actually use. This would be like demanding that Wikipedia use "Meiji Ishin" instead of the standard English term "Meiji Restoration." --Ash-Gaar (talk) 15:12, 30 April 2023 (UTC)

- Your answer is complete nonsense, try to understand that the only valid research processes are from the designation "Tokkō" and not from its description "special higher police" which will not give any valid answer to a reader who seeks to learn about the word "Tokkō" !!!!. This page is in English and intended for an international audience. The title "special higher police" can only be used on a page written in Japanese!!!. Is that clear ? So please correct the title and put back "Tokkō" as on ALL other Wikipedia pages in other languages. Hanafunda (talk) 19:24, 1 May 2023 (UTC) Hanafunda (talk) 19:25, 1 May 2023 (UTC)

- Your exceedingly rude answer did not address my response at all. "Tokkō" would not be a good title for this page, and would be extremely confusing in English, because it is also the term widely used in Japanese for kamikaze attacks (特別攻撃隊). Although the kanji are different, the rōmaji is the same. This is why we have a disambiguation page for Tokkō here on the English Wikipedia, and why the previous title of this page was not in fact "Tokkō" but "Tokubetsu Kōtō Keisatsu." Retitling this page to "Tokkō" would require adding a parenthetical disambiguation directly into the title which would be far less desirable than the current title. And again, you did not address my fundamental point that "Special Higher Police," which is the full name of this organization and not an ambiguous nickname, is also the standard term used in English language scholarship and thus should be preferred. If you persist in hurling insults without addressing my points, I will discontinue my efforts to respond to your rants. --Ash-Gaar (talk) 22:45, 1 May 2023 (UTC)
